Under the circumstances that all the study abroad and overseas social engagement programs had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to offer a new, online summer student exchange program.

Course Features

This program will be delivered by Sophia University in Japan in collaboration with partner universities in Southeast Asia (including Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines). Participants will be able to receive online lectures from outstanding experts from each of Sophia University’s partner universities, and experience exchanges and discussions with new friends from Sophia University and partner universities in Southeast Asia, in addition to virtual campus tours.

A common theme is “Creating Together Resilient and Sustainable Future Society in Southeast Asia”. In this 6 days – short/intensive program, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and discussions on different approaches and perspectives in addressing the common theme, and learn about relevant issues in Southeast Asia, together with the same generation as yours.

■Significance of the Theme
The international community strives to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, movements of people, goods, money, and services are temporarily cut off. Southeast Asia needs to re-examine regional integration process such as ASEAN Community building under globalization, and seeks to co-create resilient and sustainable future society under so called “With Corona” Era.
In the coming era, it is greatly significant that the students of the same generation in Southeast Asia and Japan learn together about future society.
